Aberdeen Police solved a hit-and-run case in under 18 hours after a pedestrian was injured on Corbyn’s Cove Road and the rider responsible fled the scene. The swift investigation, driven by CCTV footage and local intelligence, led to the detention of Saktipada Ghorai, a chef working near the accident site.
The incident occurred earlier this week, when an unidentified motorcyclist collided with a pedestrian on Corbyn’s Cove Road, a busy area in Sri Vijaya Puram. After the crash, the rider did not stop to assist the injured and instead fled. The case was reported at Aberdeen Police Station, triggering an immediate probe.
Officers began analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the accident. Despite the initial lack of clear visuals, investigators managed to stitch together key moments from various camera angles. This helped them track the suspected escape route of the two-wheeler and narrow down possible leads.
In parallel, local sources provided inputs that pointed to Ghorai as a likely suspect. He was located, detained, and questioned. During interrogation, he confessed to being involved in the crash and admitted to fleeing the spot. The damaged motorcycle used in the accident was recovered, confirming his role.
Police officials confirmed that the case will be registered under sections related to rash and negligent driving, as well as fleeing from the scene of an accident. The rapid resolution, they noted, reflects the department’s zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations.
Authorities praised the role of surveillance and public cooperation in cracking the case. They also appealed to citizens to continue reporting similar incidents and share actionable inputs through helpline number 112, assuring full confidentiality and possible rewards.
The damaged vehicle is now in custody and will be included in evidence, along with the rider’s confession. No further suspects are being investigated. The case is being forwarded for legal processing.
