PM Modi Meets Qualcomm CEO to Strengthen India’s AI, Semiconductor, and Innovation Push

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Cristiano R. Amon, president and CEO of US-based semiconductor giant Qualcomm, to discuss India’s progress in artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and skilling initiatives, according to official sources. The meeting, held on Saturday, focused on strengthening collaboration between India and Qualcomm in advancing the country’s semiconductor and AI missions.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s unique combination of talent and scale, positioning the nation as a global hub for emerging technologies. Modi expressed appreciation for Qualcomm’s commitment to supporting India’s semiconductor ecosystem and the IndiaAI Mission, emphasizing the potential for joint innovation across AI-enabled devices, smart technologies, and industrial applications.

“It was a wonderful meeting with Cristiano R. Amon, discussing India’s strides in AI, innovation, and skilling. Great to see Qualcomm’s commitment towards India’s semiconductor and AI missions. India offers unmatched talent and scale to build technologies that will shape our collective future,” the Prime Minister stated on X.

Amon responded positively, acknowledging the discussions as enriching and emphasizing Qualcomm’s intent to foster a broader partnership with India. He underlined the company’s support for IndiaAI and India Semiconductor Missions, as well as its role in the country’s transition toward 6G. “We are encouraged by the opportunities to develop an Indian ecosystem across AI smartphones, PCs, smart glasses, automotive, industrial, and more,” Amon said on X, sharing images from the meeting.

Earlier this week, Qualcomm India outlined its strategic role in India’s digital transformation at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025. The company showcased innovations ranging from Edge AI and 6G technologies to smart homes, connected devices, and advanced computing platforms, emphasizing its contribution to shaping an intelligent, connected India. Qualcomm presented its approach through three pillars: Personal AI, Physical AI, and Industrial AI, highlighting its commitment to driving inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive technology solutions.

Qualcomm has been a significant contributor to India’s technological journey, supporting the transition from 3G to 5G while actively preparing for 6G through local research and development investments, strategic collaborations, and early-stage research initiatives. At IMC 2025, the company emphasized the role of Edge AI and 5G as foundational technologies for India’s digital future, reflecting its ongoing commitment to the country’s innovation ecosystem.

The meeting between PM Modi and Qualcomm CEO marks another step in consolidating India’s position as a global technology leader, aligning government initiatives with industry expertise to advance AI, semiconductors, and next-generation communication technologies across sectors.
