Date:

Sunjay Kapur, noted industrialist and former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away on Thursday in England at 53. Kapur reportedly suffered a heart attack while playing a game of polo.

According to preliminary reports, the cardiac episode was triggered after a bee flew into his mouth while he was riding during the match. Despite immediate medical attention, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The news of his death was confirmed by businessman and author Suhel Seth, who posted his condolences on social media. “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and his colleagues @sonacomstar …Om Shanti,” Seth shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Kapur served as the Chairman of Sona Comstar and was a well-known figure in the Indian automotive sector, recognised for his leadership and business vision.

Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor on September 29, 2003, in a high-profile Sikh wedding ceremony at her ancestral home, Krishna Raj Bungalow, in Mumbai. In 2014, the couple filed for divorce through mutual consent. However, in 2015, they filed applications to withdraw the consent, but the divorce was eventually finalised in 2016.

That same year, Karisma Kapoor filed a domestic violence case against Kapur and his mother, alleging physical abuse and accusing him of involvement with another woman. She also filed a dowry harassment complaint, which led to a police summons for Kapur. The couple had been engaged in a bitter legal dispute over divorce and child custody.
