Sri Vijaya Puram, November 4: An Indian national who sustained critical injuries in the October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has died while undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit in Saudi Arabia, taking the number of Indians killed in the incident to two.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed the death on Wednesday, expressing condolences to the bereaved family and assuring them of all possible assistance in bringing the deceased’s mortal remains back to India or arranging a funeral in Riyadh, depending on the family’s wishes.
In a statement posted on X, the Embassy said it had remained in contact with the family throughout the injured man’s treatment and would continue to support them following his death.
“With a heavy heart, we share that another Indian national, critically injured in the 10 October attack on Riyadh airport, has passed away in ICU,” the mission stated, conveying its condolences to the family and friends.
The Embassy also assured that arrangements would be facilitated in accordance with the family’s preference, either for repatriation of the mortal remains to India or a funeral in Riyadh.
Second Indian Death
The latest death follows the Embassy’s confirmation last month that another Indian national injured in the same attack had succumbed to his injuries.
The earlier victim was identified as Mohammed Yusuf Ali, a native of Hyderabad. His two sons and an aunt were also among those injured in the attack.
Following the incident, the Indian Embassy had confirmed that 11 Indian nationals were injured and said its officials were coordinating with local authorities and hospital authorities to monitor their condition and provide assistance.
The mission had also reached out to the affected families and maintained contact with medical facilities treating the injured.
Airport Attack
The October 10 attack targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital amid escalating hostilities involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group, with both sides continuing to exchange strikes targeting major airports.
According to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, the attack claimed 12 lives and left 309 people injured.
The incident drew international condemnation, with India strongly denouncing the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
India described such attacks as unacceptable and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
With another Indian national now losing his life after weeks of critical treatment, the incident has renewed attention on the safety of Indian nationals caught in the escalating conflict in the region. The Indian Embassy has reiterated its commitment to assisting the affected family through the arrangements following the death.
