Sri Vijaya Puram, November 3: Promoting sailing among young people and expanding opportunities for marine recreational activities remain key challenges for island tourism, with the Andaman Nicobar Sailing Club (ANSC) organising Light Up Regatta 2026 to encourage young talent and highlight the islands’ potential as a sailing destination.
The event, an initiative of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIIDCO) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, featured competitive sailing races and an illuminated sailing display in the waters near Marina Park and Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram.
The sailing competitions gave young participants an opportunity to demonstrate their technical abilities and compete against fellow sailors. The races formed a central part of the programme’s effort to introduce young enthusiasts to sailing and provide them with a platform to demonstrate their skills.

Akanchha Singh, Director (Information, Publicity and Tourism) of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, presented trophies to the winners and certificates to all participants. The recognition acknowledged the sailors’ participation and encouraged them to continue pursuing the sport.
The evening’s main attraction was the Light Up Sailing Display, in which illuminated boats sailed through the waters near Marina Park and Flag Point. Their lights reflected across the sea, creating a distinctive visual display along the Sri Vijaya Puram waterfront.

Beyond the competitive races, the event sought to strengthen interest in sailing as a water sport and encourage the development of young sailing talent in the islands. It also aimed to highlight the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a destination for sailing and other marine recreational activities.
The initiative brought together sporting participation and a public display of sailing, placing the focus on introducing the younger generation to water sports while drawing attention to the islands’ marine recreation potential.
