60 Litres of Liquor Seized From Auto-Rickshaw in South Andaman, Excise Action Initiated

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 23: Police seized 60 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from an auto-rickshaw in South Andaman after its driver allegedly attempted to evade a patrol at Andabeda. The seizure involved 96 bottles and cans of liquor, with police initiating legal action against a 25-year-old man for allegedly transporting alcohol beyond the permitted quantity without a valid licence or permit.

The incident occurred on October 22, when a team from Bambooflat Police Station was patrolling the Andabeda area.

According to police, officers noticed an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number AN01 Q 8955 approaching from Kadakachang. The person driving the vehicle allegedly attempted to turn around and leave after spotting the patrol team.

Police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search, during which they recovered the liquor from bags carried by Arun, 25, son of R. Ravi, a resident of N-50 B, Tsunami Shelter.

The police statement said Arun could not produce the required authorisation to possess or transport liquor exceeding the prescribed quantity.

Officers subsequently seized the recovered alcohol, the auto-rickshaw and its key in accordance with the prescribed procedure. They also initiated proceedings against him under the applicable Excise Regulations.

The operation involved a Bambooflat Police Station team led by Sub-Inspector A. Sneha, accompanied by Head Constable Jerome Peter, Police Constable Ipshita Roy and police driver Mohd. Ashraf Ali.

The seizure forms part of the South Andaman Police’s ongoing enforcement activities against unauthorised liquor possession and transportation. Police said they have been conducting excise raids across the district and taking action against suspected violations.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to share information about illegal liquor-related activities, assuring confidentiality for informants.

The police statement did not specify the intended destination of the seized liquor or provide further details about the proceedings initiated against the accused.
