LG Calls for Strict Safety Compliance at Festivals After West Bengal Puja Pandal Incident

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 19: The tragic incident at a Durga Puja pandal in West Bengal prompted Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma to call for strict compliance with safety regulations during festival celebrations, as he visited multiple puja venues in Sri Vijaya Puram on October 18. During the visits, he also attended a programme organised by Brahma Kumaris and a golden jubilee celebration marking 50 years of the Durga Puja Committee associated with Eagle Club.

Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the incident in West Bengal and urged people to celebrate festivals with enthusiasm while adhering to the law and prescribed safety norms. His remarks came as he participated in religious gatherings at several venues across the capital.

He began his engagements at the Ramakrishna Mission on Marina Park Road, where he attended the Sri Sri Durga Puja 2026 celebrations and offered prayers. He prayed for the happiness, peace, prosperity and well-being of the islanders.

The Lieutenant Governor subsequently attended the 50th-year celebrations of the Durga Puja Committee organised by Eagle Club at Netaji Club in Aberdeen Bazaar. He congratulated the club members on completing five decades and interacted with devotees attending the event.

At the Radha Krishna Temple in Junglighat, Sharma attended the “Durga Chaitanya” programme organised by Brahma Kumaris. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the importance of devotion to God and purity in conduct, while reflecting on the divine power of Maa Durga. He also prayed for the holistic development of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Sharma later attended another Durga Puja celebration in Junglighat, where he sought blessings and congratulated the organising committee on the conduct of the festivities. He also interacted with devotees at the venue.

Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman and other dignitaries attended the various programmes.

The Lieutenant Governor’s engagements combined participation in religious celebrations with an appeal for observance of safety regulations following the incident in West Bengal.
