Andaman Invites Applications to Open Jan Aushadhi Kendras for Affordable Generic Medicines

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 15: Individuals, entrepreneurs and organisations interested in opening affordable generic medicine outlets in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands can apply to establish Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), subject to eligibility criteria and approval by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI).

The initiative seeks to expand public access to quality generic medicines at affordable prices by encouraging eligible applicants to establish Kendras across the islands. The application process is open to individuals, proprietors, firms, private companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), charitable organisations, trusts and societies.

Applicants must submit their applications through the official PMBI portal and comply with the scheme’s prevailing guidelines, eligibility conditions and statutory requirements. The opening and operation of each outlet will depend on PMBI approval and adherence to the applicable regulations.

Prospective applicants must arrange suitable premises and engage a qualified registered pharmacist to operate the Kendra. They must also obtain the required drug licence and submit the documents prescribed by PMBI as part of the application process.

Applicants can access the detailed eligibility criteria, application procedure and documentation requirements through the official PMBI website at https://www.janaushadhi.gov.in/apply-for-kendra.

The scheme provides an avenue for eligible individuals and organisations to participate in expanding the availability of generic medicines in the islands. However, applicants must meet the prescribed conditions before they can establish and operate a centre.

For further information on the scheme and its application requirements, interested parties can contact the Chief Executive Officer of PMBI at the organisation’s office at B-500, Tower B, fifth floor, World Trade Center, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi – 110029.

PMBI can also be contacted by telephone at 011-49431800 for scheme-related queries.

Applicants should consult the official portal for the applicable guidelines and required documents before submitting their applications. Meeting the eligibility criteria and completing the application process do not, by themselves, authorise the operation of a Kendra; applicants must obtain PMBI approval and fulfil all applicable statutory and scheme requirements.
