Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 14: Ensuring complete population coverage across inhabited areas, including remote islands, emerged as a key focus as the Andaman and Nicobar Administration reviewed preparations for Phase II of Population Enumeration under Census 2027 at a conference held at the Secretariat.
Chief Secretary Gyanesh Bharti chaired the one-day conference of Union Territory-level officers and Principal Census Officers, which examined administrative readiness, the deployment and training of enumerators and supervisors, and coordination at the field level to monitor census activities.
Deputy Commissioners from all three districts attended the meeting alongside senior officials of the Union Territory Administration and other officers involved in census operations.

Jaspal Singh, Deputy Registrar General, travelled from New Delhi to participate on behalf of the Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner. The conference also featured a presentation by Purva Garg, Director of Census Operations for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on the progress of Census 2027 in the Union Territory.
Discussions centred on the arrangements required to conduct population enumeration effectively, including preparing personnel for field duties and establishing coordination among officials responsible for implementation and monitoring.
Officials also emphasised the need to cover every inhabited area, including geographically remote islands, while maintaining the accuracy and confidentiality of census data. These priorities formed a central part of the review of preparations for the next phase of enumeration.
The conference brought together district-level administrators, census officers and officials from the national census establishment to assess the administrative and operational requirements for the exercise across the island territory.
The meeting focused on preparedness and coordination for Phase II; the information provided did not specify a revised implementation schedule or announce any new census-related measures.
