The Wave Andaman Poll: Is New LG Dr. Dinesh Sharma Doing a Commendable Job?

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: With Dr. Dinesh Sharma beginning his tenure as Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, The Wave Andaman is inviting Islanders to assess his performance so far through a new public poll.

The poll asks a simple question: “Is the new LG, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, doing a commendable job so far?”

The initiative comes after Dr. Sharma’s arrival in the Islands and his initial interaction with the administration and the public. In his early remarks, the new Lieutenant Governor highlighted the Islands’ natural beauty, environmental significance, tourism potential and strategic importance, while stressing that development should be carried out within the framework of law and in the public interest.

The latest poll seeks to move the conversation from expectations to public assessment, giving Islanders an opportunity to express how they view the Lieutenant Governor’s performance during the initial phase of his tenure.

Participants have been given three options:

A. Yes, his work is commendable

B. There is progress, but more needs to be done

C. No, I am not satisfied with the performance so far

The poll follows an earlier The Wave Andaman poll that asked Islanders what should be the top priority for the new Lieutenant Governor. In that poll, Connectivity and Infrastructure emerged as the leading choice, followed by Tourism and Local Economy and Governance and Public Services.

The latest poll is intended to gauge whether Islanders feel that the new administration is moving in the direction expected by them and whether the priorities identified by the public are being addressed.

Dr. Sharma has spoken about the need to align Central Government schemes with the requirements of the Islands and ensure that development works are undertaken in a manner that is lawful and beneficial to the people. He has also highlighted the potential to strengthen tourism and generate greater economic opportunities within the Islands.

For residents, however, the impact of any administration is ultimately measured through issues that affect everyday life, including connectivity, infrastructure, public services, healthcare, tourism, employment and the delivery of government schemes.

The poll therefore provides an opportunity for Islanders to offer an early assessment of the new Lieutenant Governor’s tenure.

While the poll is not intended to constitute a scientific survey of the entire population, the responses will provide an indication of the sentiment among The Wave Andaman readers participating in the exercise.
