Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: The Agriculture Department has announced camps for registering farmers under the Farmer Registry for generation of Farmer IDs, while clarifying that the digital identification facility will not establish or alter land ownership or any other legal rights over land.
The registration is being undertaken as part of the Government of India’s Digital Agriculture Mission and the AgriStack initiative. The Farmer ID is intended to provide eligible farmers with a digital identity through which they can access agriculture-related government schemes, benefits and services.
The department said the initiative seeks to streamline the delivery of agricultural services and enable eligible farmers to receive government benefits more efficiently and transparently.

A key clarification issued by the department is that obtaining a Farmer ID will not confer, establish or transfer any right, title or interest in land. The digital ID will not serve as a land ownership document and cannot be treated as proof of ownership, possession, tenancy or any other legal right over agricultural land.
The department has also clarified that registration in the Farmer Registry, including the linking of land records with a Farmer ID, will not modify existing land records or determine ownership of any land.
Any dispute concerning ownership, possession, the extent of land or other rights will continue to be dealt with under the records and procedures of the competent Revenue Authority in accordance with applicable laws.
The clarification separates the proposed digital identification system from the legal framework governing land records. The Farmer ID is intended specifically to identify farmers and facilitate access to eligible agricultural schemes, benefits and services, rather than replace existing land-related records or legal documents.
The department has advised farmers to understand the limited purpose of the Farmer ID before completing the registration process. Farmers who are eligible have been encouraged to register through the designated channels and provide accurate information along with the required supporting documents.
The Farmer Registry registration will therefore create a digital identification mechanism for accessing government agricultural services without changing the status of existing land records. Land-related claims and disputes will remain subject to the records and procedures maintained by the competent Revenue Authority under the applicable laws.
The department has urged eligible farmers to complete the Farmer ID generation process through the designated registration channels, ensuring that the information submitted during registration is accurate and supported by the required documents.
