Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: South Andaman District Police have registered 41 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and arrested 67 persons since January 1, with seizures including 19.33 kg of ganja, 10.051 kg of methamphetamine and 1.67 kg of hashish, according to police data.
The latest enforcement figures cover operations conducted from September 1 to October 7, during which police registered nine FIRs across different police stations and apprehended 15 persons. The operations resulted in the seizure of 7.754 kg of ganja, 1.21 kg of methamphetamine and 26 cannabis plants weighing 10.236 kg.
Among the recent cases, Police Station Humfrygunj registered two cases, arrested three persons and seized 2.29 kg of ganja. Police Station Pahargaon registered one case involving the seizure of 1.21049 kg of methamphetamine and arrested five persons. Police Station Aberdeen registered one case, with 4.125 kg of ganja seized and two persons arrested.
The wider 2026 figures also include the seizure of 47 Nitrazepam tablets and 10 Nitzascen tablets, besides 73 cannabis plants weighing 10.4638 kg. The seized substances were taken into custody after the prescribed legal and procedural formalities were completed.
The enforcement action follows directions from Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma to strengthen efforts against narcotics and work towards drug-free Islands. Police said teams across South Andaman have carried out coordinated raids and searches at different locations as part of action against the possession, sale and distribution of narcotic substances.
Alongside enforcement, authorities have conducted 298 awareness programmes across South Andaman during the year to sensitise the public, particularly young people, about the harmful effects of narcotic drug consumption.

Police said the operations have included regular raids, surprise checks, intelligence-based action and intensified patrolling. The department said it would continue enforcement against drug-related activities under its stated zero-tolerance approach.
The district police have also appealed to residents to share credible information about illegal activities and the sale of narcotic substances. Information can be provided through the Emergency Response Support System at 112, the Police Control Room at 03192-232100, the Narcotics Helpline at 9531856080 or the SP (D) South Andaman office at 03192-236641.
Police said informants would be suitably rewarded and that their identities would be kept confidential.
