Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: More than 80 cyclists from the Andaman and Nicobar Police and participating organisations joined a cycling rally in Sri Vijaya Puram on Sunday to mark National Sports Day 2026, carrying the campaign message “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein” and encouraging regular physical activity.
The rally formed part of the nationwide National Sports Day campaign of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, being observed from August 28 to 30 under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”. The campaign centres on three pillars, Tribute, Play and Move, and calls on citizens to devote at least one hour to sports and physical activity each day.
The cycling rally began at Dharamshala and passed through Marina Park Traffic Point, GSSS Girls’ School, JNRM, Flag Point, Mazar Pahad Junction and Science Centre before following the same route back and concluding at Netaji Stadium Gate.

Cyclists rode together during the early morning rally, which promoted cycling, fitness, healthy living and wider participation in sports. The event also highlighted the role of regular physical activity in maintaining physical and mental well-being.
Geeta Rani Verma, Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands, joined the rally along with Niyati Mittal, SP (APU), Ankesh Yadav, DSP (PMF), and Ranjit Kumar, AD Sports. Their participation encouraged the cyclists and reinforced the event’s focus on an active and disciplined lifestyle.
The rally brought together more than 80 cyclists, with participation from the Andaman and Nicobar Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sports Authority of India (SAI), Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), cyclists and sports enthusiasts.
The participation of personnel and officials from different organisations also reflected inter-departmental coordination around sports and fitness. The organisers linked such collective activities with stronger police-public engagement and greater encouragement for citizens, particularly young people, to participate regularly in sports and physical activities.
The campaign’s central message urged people to make physical activity part of their everyday routine rather than treating fitness as an occasional pursuit. Through cycling, the rally sought to demonstrate one accessible form of regular exercise while promoting an active lifestyle.
The event concluded the Andaman and Nicobar Police’s participation in the National Sports Day 2026 campaign, reinforcing the messages of “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” and “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”.
The police also reiterated its commitment to promoting fitness and healthy living, urging people to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines.
