New Delhi, Aug. 27: India has dispatched 10 tonnes of humanitarian relief material to Nepal as emergency response operations continue in the wake of devastating monsoon floods and landslides that have displaced thousands and caused extensive damage across the Himalayan nation.
The relief consignment was formally handed over on Aug. 26 by India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, to Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khadak Raj Paudel. The assistance comprises essential relief supplies intended to support communities affected by the disaster and strengthen Nepal’s immediate relief efforts.
The humanitarian assistance comes as rescue and relief operations remain underway across multiple provinces in Nepal, where authorities continue to respond to widespread destruction caused by heavy monsoon rainfall. The flooding has damaged infrastructure, homes and agricultural land, leaving thousands of families affected and placing significant pressure on emergency response agencies.
Reaffirming India’s support, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the country remains committed to assisting Nepal during the crisis. In a post on X, he stated, “Standing by Nepal, always,” underscoring India’s readiness to extend all possible assistance to its neighbouring country.
The latest relief package forms part of India’s broader humanitarian outreach under its “Neighbourhood First” policy, through which New Delhi has consistently provided emergency assistance to neighbouring countries during natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
India and Nepal have a long record of disaster cooperation. In previous emergencies, including the 2015 earthquake and subsequent flood events, India supplied relief materials, deployed medical teams and supported reconstruction efforts. The current assistance continues that pattern of bilateral humanitarian cooperation during times of crisis.
Officials said the aid package reflects India’s commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian partnership. The relief materials are expected to enhance Nepal’s capacity to address immediate needs arising from the floods while supporting ongoing emergency operations in affected areas.
India and Nepal share longstanding cultural, historical and economic ties, with disaster response remaining an important aspect of bilateral cooperation. The latest humanitarian assistance reinforces that partnership as Nepal continues relief and recovery efforts following one of the country’s latest major monsoon-related disasters.
