Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 6: The Anti-Drug Squad of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) organised an awareness programme on the theme “Say ‘No’ to Narcotic Drugs”, bringing students together to learn about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and the importance of adopting a drug-free lifestyle.
The programme was held at the college lecture gallery with the objective of educating students about the risks associated with narcotic drug use and encouraging them to make informed choices. The event focused on preventive awareness through expert interaction, educational presentations and student participation.
Presiding over the programme, JNRM Principal Pearl Devdas urged students to avoid drug abuse and remain focused on building a meaningful future. She encouraged them to direct their energy towards constructive and creative pursuits instead of adopting harmful habits that could adversely affect their lives.
The keynote address was delivered by Parag Chaturvedi, Commandant, Headquarters, Sashastra Seema Bal (Assam), who presented facts and statistics on the growing drug menace in India. He also explained the country’s vulnerability to drug trafficking, citing its geographical location between the “Golden Triangle” and the “Golden Crescent.”
The awareness programme featured a video presentation illustrating the consequences of drug abuse, followed by an interactive session in which students engaged with the speakers on issues related to substance abuse and prevention.
The event concluded with a collective pledge led by the principal, during which students committed themselves to remaining free from narcotic drugs.
Welcoming the gathering, K. V. Ramana Murthy, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Anti-Drug Squad, said healthy youth form the foundation of a strong nation. He underscored the importance of awareness and responsible decision-making in protecting young people from the dangers of substance abuse.
The programme formed part of JNRM’s efforts to sensitise students to the social and health consequences of narcotic drugs while promoting informed choices and a drug-free campus environment through awareness and education.
