Man Held With 64 Grams of Suspected Ganja, NDPS Probe Launched in Diglipur

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 4: A man was apprehended with approximately 64 grams of suspected ganja in North and Middle Andaman district after police intercepted him on information that he was allegedly on his way to sell the contraband. The seizure forms part of the district’s continuing anti-narcotics enforcement, with investigators now working to trace the source of the suspected substance and identify others linked to the case.

According to the police, the action followed specific information indicating that a resident of Swarajgram was proceeding to sell illicit ganja. Acting on the input, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Mohd. Rafique, in-charge of Police Station Diglipur, moved to intercept the suspect.

The team stopped and searched the individual at Bahadur Tikrey Junction, where approximately 64 grams of suspected ganja was allegedly recovered from his possession. The recovered substance was seized in accordance with legal procedure, and the accused was apprehended.

Police subsequently registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed in the information released.

Investigators said further inquiry is underway to establish the source of the suspected contraband and identify any other persons who may be involved in the alleged narcotics network.

Police have also appealed to members of the public to report information related to illegal narcotics activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency helpline numbers 100 and 112. They stated that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and that suitable rewards will be provided for actionable information.

The latest seizure comes amid continuing action under the NDPS Act in the district, with the investigation now focused on uncovering the alleged supply chain connected to the recovered suspected ganja.
