Sri Vijaya Puram, July 25: Residents of Campbell Bay continue to face disruption in the supply of domestic LPG cylinders after transportation was affected by the prolonged non-availability of privately operated IMDG vessels. The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has stated that it is taking multiple measures to restore supplies, with adequate quantities of LPG cylinders expected to reach the island by July 31.
The Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs said the interruption in LPG transportation has caused inconvenience to domestic consumers in Campbell Bay. According to the Directorate, the disruption stems from the continued unavailability of privately operated IMDG vessels responsible for transporting LPG cylinders to the island.
To address the situation, the Directorate, on behalf of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has been coordinating with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and operators of privately operated IMDG vessels to resume the transportation of domestic LPG cylinders to Campbell Bay at the earliest.
At the same time, the Administration has approached the Andaman and Nicobar Command seeking assistance from the Indian Navy to facilitate the transportation of LPG cylinders to Campbell Bay. The move is aimed at restoring regular supplies as quickly as possible.
According to the Administration, these coordinated efforts have resulted in arrangements for the transportation of adequate quantities of domestic LPG cylinders through MV Manav Star. The consignment is expected to reach Campbell Bay by July 31, subject to the scheduled movement of the vessel.
The Directorate stated that the Administration is closely monitoring the situation and continues to make every possible effort to normalise the supply of domestic LPG cylinders at the earliest. Officials said restoring uninterrupted availability of cooking gas remains a priority while logistical arrangements are being pursued.
The Administration has appealed to residents of Campbell Bay to remain assured that all possible measures are being taken to restore regular LPG supplies. It also acknowledged the cooperation extended by consumers during the period of disruption.
The Directorate reiterated that efforts are continuing on multiple fronts, including coordination with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., private vessel operators and the Andaman and Nicobar Command, to ensure that domestic LPG cylinders reach Campbell Bay without further delay and that normal supply is restored as soon as possible.
