Hyderabad, July 9: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has appointed Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra as the leader of its Parliamentary Party and floor leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing K.R. Suresh Reddy following the completion of his term in the Upper House.
The appointment was made by BRS president Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the party announced on Thursday. Ravichandra, who had been serving as the deputy leader of the BRS Parliamentary Party, will now head the party’s parliamentary affairs in the Rajya Sabha.
The leadership change follows the retirement of K.R. Suresh Reddy, who was leading the BRS Parliamentary Party until the completion of his Rajya Sabha tenure.
According to the party, Ravichandra was nominated to the Rajya Sabha for a second term in recognition of his contributions to the BRS as well as his work for the Backward Classes and Bahujan communities.
Ravichandra was first nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 after the resignation of Banda Prakash Mudiraj, who was subsequently moved to the Telangana Legislative Council. After his initial term ended in April 2024, KCR nominated him again for a second term, following which he was appointed deputy leader of the BRS Parliamentary Party.
His current Rajya Sabha tenure is scheduled to continue until April 2030.
Apart from his parliamentary responsibilities, Ravichandra serves as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Coal and Mines.
Following his appointment, Ravichandra thanked KCR and BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the party in Parliament.
He said he accepted the responsibility with humility and pledged to effectively raise issues concerning the people of Telangana in Parliament. He also said he would work to strengthen the party and strive towards KCR returning as Chief Minister for a third term.
Following the retirement of Suresh Reddy, the BRS now has three members in the Rajya Sabha, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, D. Damodar Rao and Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy.
The party currently has no representation in the Lok Sabha after it failed to win any seats in the 2024 general elections.
