Sri Vijaya Puram, July 9: Growing cybercrime threats and the need for faster emergency response received a major infrastructure push on Wednesday as the Andaman & Nicobar Administration inaugurated a Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory for police personnel and inducted two new fire tenders to strengthen firefighting capabilities across the Islands.
Lieutenant Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency Admiral D.K. Joshi inaugurated the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI) and flagged off the two newly commissioned fire tenders for the Fire & Emergency Services. The event was attended by Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Director General of Police and senior officers of the Administration, Police and Fire & Emergency Services.
The newly established laboratory has been set up to address the increasing challenges posed by cybercrime by equipping police personnel with specialised training in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence. The facility will be used to train both new recruits and serving police personnel in accordance with the requirements of the Nyaya Sanhita.
The Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory is equipped with forensic tools including Write Blockers, CDR Analysis Software, IPDR Analysis Software, e-Sakshya Tablets, SIM Extractor, Mobile Check, Cyber Check and True Imager. These systems will enable practical training in collecting, preserving, examining and analysing digital evidence, enhancing the capability of investigators to handle cybercrime cases through scientific methods.
The two newly inducted fire tenders are equipped with modern firefighting systems and are expected to strengthen the operational readiness of the Fire & Emergency Services. According to the Administration, the addition of the vehicles will improve response time and enhance the department’s ability to respond more effectively to fire incidents and other emergencies.
Addressing the gathering, Admiral D.K. Joshi emphasised the need to continuously adopt modern technology and strengthen the capabilities of frontline personnel to meet evolving public safety challenges. He also appreciated the efforts of the Andaman & Nicobar Police in advancing technology-driven policing and building a professionally trained police force.
Director General of Police Ravindra Yadav said the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory reflects the police department’s commitment to modernisation, scientific investigation and continuous capacity building. He said the facility will help develop skilled investigators capable of implementing the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, more effectively.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, during which appreciation was expressed to Admiral D.K. Joshi for his continued support in strengthening the Police and Fire & Emergency Services. Gratitude was also conveyed to the Chief Secretary for guidance and encouragement.
The inauguration of the Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory and the induction of the two fire tenders mark another step in the ongoing modernisation of the Andaman & Nicobar Police and Fire & Emergency Services, reinforcing the Administration’s focus on technology-driven policing, professional training and citizen-centric public safety.
