Sri Vijaya Puram, July 01: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has revised the minimum rates of wages across all categories of employment with effect from July 1, 2026, making the updated wage structure mandatory for government departments, offices, industrial establishments and all other employments across the Union Territory.
The revised wage rates have been notified after incorporating the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), calculated on the basis of the average rise in the All India Consumer Price Index, in accordance with the provisions of the Code on Wages, 2019.
Under the revised notification, unskilled workers will receive a minimum wage of ₹660 per day. Semi-skilled workers and unskilled supervisory employees will be entitled to a minimum daily wage of ₹741.
The revised rates further provide a minimum daily wage of ₹864 for skilled and clerical employees, while highly skilled workers will receive ₹947 per day.
The Administration stated that the revised wage rates will apply uniformly across all employments, including government departments, government offices and industrial establishments functioning in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The revision has been carried out under the statutory framework of the Code on Wages, 2019, which provides for periodic revision of minimum wages by factoring in changes in the Variable Dearness Allowance linked to inflation through the All India Consumer Price Index.
The Administration has directed all employers to implement the revised wage rates from July 1 without exception. It has also cautioned that failure to comply with the notified minimum wages will invite punitive action under the provisions of the Code on Wages, 2019.
Employers have been advised to ensure that workers falling under different skill categories receive wages in accordance with the revised schedule notified by the Administration.
The official order containing the revised minimum wage rates has been made available through the Labour Department for public access. Employers, workers and other stakeholders may download the notification from the Labour Department’s official website for reference and compliance.
The revision is aimed at ensuring statutory wage protection in line with the latest Variable Dearness Allowance calculations applicable in the Union Territory from July 1, 2026.
