The 32nd meeting of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) convened today at the Conference Hall of the Labour Commissioner’s Office, Supply Line. The session was attended by representatives from the Central Government nominee, A&N Administration, employers, and trade unions.
The meeting focused on issues related to extending social security assistance to registered construction workers under the Board. Discussions emphasized the importance of ensuring that welfare benefits reach all eligible workers engaged across various construction sites in the islands.
Officials highlighted the need for awareness campaigns to inform workers about the schemes and benefits available. The Board stressed utilizing digital platforms to increase outreach and ensure workers are informed of the services offered by ANIBOCWWB.
Following deliberations on the circulated agenda, the Board approved the release of Rs. 13.39 lakh to settle 80 claims filed under welfare schemes, including pension, maternity, medical assistance, and death assistance for registered construction workers. The financial benefits will be disbursed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode to ensure timely and transparent delivery of assistance.
The Board meeting also reviewed the status of ongoing welfare initiatives and underscored the importance of streamlining claim processing to reduce delays. Members recommended periodic monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes.
The welfare board has been actively working to strengthen the social security framework for construction workers in the union territory, ensuring that financial aid is accessible and delivered efficiently. The current approval of Rs. 13.39 lakh demonstrates a continued commitment to supporting workers in vulnerable sectors.
