Rural development focus as Vikas Mela wraps up at Diglipur

Date:

The week-long Vikas Mela-cum-DAY-NRLM, organised at Diglipur from December 8 to 14, concluded with a strong focus on rural development, women empowerment and livelihood promotion, drawing wide participation from Self Help Groups, government departments and local residents.

The mela was organised with the objective of creating awareness about various government welfare schemes, encouraging self-employment and promoting innovation at the grassroots level. Throughout the event, departmental stalls and interactive sessions provided information on schemes related to livelihoods, social security and rural development.

A major highlight of the mela was the participation of Self Help Groups functioning under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission. SHGs showcased a variety of products, skills and livelihood activities, including handicrafts and locally produced goods, which received strong public response and appreciation.

The event also featured cultural programmes and sports activities, adding to public engagement and attracting visitors across age groups. Officials noted that the combination of awareness stalls and community activities helped make the mela both informative and participatory.

The concluding function was attended by representatives of the district administration, Panchayati Raj Institutions and various line departments, along with SHG members, volunteers and a large number of residents. The gathering reflected broad community involvement in the initiative.

Officials associated with the programme said the mela demonstrated effective inter-departmental coordination and collective effort in implementing rural development initiatives. The participation of multiple departments allowed visitors to access information and services at a single platform.

The mela was also viewed as an opportunity for SHG members to directly interact with the public, market their products and gain exposure beyond their immediate localities. Such platforms, officials said, play an important role in strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting financial inclusion.

Residents attending the event noted that the mela provided valuable information about schemes and opportunities that are often not easily accessible in remote areas. The administration stated that similar events would continue to be organised to ensure sustained outreach and engagement with rural communities.

The Vikas Mela-cum-DAY-NRLM initiative at Diglipur was described as a step towards strengthening the socio-economic fabric of the region by linking community participation with development programmes.
