Police Station Pahargaon from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has brought national recognition to the UT after being ranked the second best police station in India at the prestigious All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police–2025, held at the Indian Institute of Management, Raipur, from November 28 to 30.
The award was received by Mohamad Elias, Station House Officer of Police Station Pahargaon, and was presented by Amit Shah during the high-level national conclave that reviewed policing standards and internal security preparedness across the country.
The annual conference, attended by the highest leadership of India’s security establishment, serves as the premier platform for evaluating police performance, discussing emerging security challenges, and formulating future strategies. This year’s event drew nearly 600 senior police officials, directors general, inspector generals, and senior officers from across India.
The awards for top police stations are based on a rigorous and transparent evaluation framework involving more than 70 parameters. These include quality of public service delivery, responsiveness to citizen complaints, crime resolution efficiency, pendency of cases, cleanliness and infrastructure, cybercrime preparedness, community outreach, and initiatives related to women’s safety and vulnerable groups. The parameters also assess innovation, use of technology, and trust-building with local communities.
Police Station Pahargaon’s second-place ranking places it among the best-performing police stations nationwide, highlighting the station’s consistent efforts in citizen-centric policing and maintaining law and order in a geographically sensitive and diverse region like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The recognition is expected to further motivate police personnel in the Islands and reinforce public confidence in local policing.
The awards were presented by Amit Shah in the presence of top national security officials, including Ajit Doval, Parag Jain, and Tapan Deka, underscoring the significance attached to grassroots policing outcomes in India’s internal security framework.
For the Andaman and Nicobar Police, the national recognition for Police Station Pahargaon is being seen as a milestone achievement. Officials view the award as validation of sustained efforts to improve service delivery, strengthen community policing, and address emerging crime trends despite logistical challenges unique to island administration.
The achievement is also expected to serve as a benchmark for other police stations in the Islands, encouraging the adoption of best practices and reinforcing a culture of accountability and public service across the force.
