3×3 Open Basketball Championship and District Athletic Meet Scheduled in A&N Islands

The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has announced the organization of the 3×3 Open Basketball Championship for men and women, scheduled to be held on December 30, 2025, at 4 pm at the Basketball Court in Netaji Stadium. Each participating team will comprise a maximum of four players, including three players on the court and one substitute. The championship will be conducted free of charge, with no entry fees for participants. The winning and runner-up teams in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive trophies, medals, and cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively.

Registrations for the basketball championship are open to participants from government and private schools, colleges, institutions, organizations, and youth clubs. Interested candidates must register with the event organizer, G. Nagesh Rao, PET/Basketball Coach, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, by December 29, 2025, at 5 pm. The fixtures for the championship will be drawn on December 30 at 4 pm, with the inaugural match scheduled for 5 pm onward.

In addition to the basketball event, the department will conduct the District Athletic Meet 2026 on January 9 and 10, 2026, at the Netaji Stadium Sports Complex in Sri Vijaya Puram. The meet will feature competitions for school students across various age groups as well as an open category for men and women above 18 years from the islands, subject to weather conditions. Athletic events will include sprints ranging from 50 to 100 meters, 200- and 400-meter races, 600- and 800-meter races, and long-distance events including the 1,500-meter race. Field events such as long jump, standing broad jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, and relay races will also be conducted, with participants allowed to enter multiple events depending on their category.

Registrations for the District Athletic Meet are open to school students and above 18-year-old participants, who must provide identification documents including school ID cards for students and Aadhaar cards for adults. Interested participants may register with event organizers Shamali, PET, and K.P. Mammu, Athletic Coach, at the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs on working days from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, with the registration deadline set for January 7, 2026. Winners and runners-up in all events will be awarded cash prizes in addition to recognition for their achievements.

The department’s initiatives aim to encourage active participation in sports among youth and adults, promote physical fitness, and provide a competitive platform for athletes across the islands. By hosting these events, the administration continues to strengthen sports infrastructure and engagement within the community while fostering talent at the grassroots and open levels.
